Your favourite European cities for a long weekend?

WHO has an amazingly diverse group of characters with great experiences. So, If you were taking a long weekend in a European city where would you go and why?

Unfortunately I have many I could chose but I'll start off with Lisbon. The weather is extremely good. It has an interesting old city with fun places to eat and drink. It has culture and it is also on a big river not far from the sea. I've been a couple of times in the last two years and although I like Barcelona Lisbon is a bit smaller and less flooded with tourists.

As a side I would also recommend Krakow

Tallinn - Beautiful, cheap, good food
Riga - as above
Budapest - Beautiful, cheap, romantic, good food
Berlin - Fascinating, good food & beer
Bratislava - Cheap, good food, pretty in the city
Reykjavik - Diverse, expensive, something completely different
Athens - Weather, good food, historic

Branded - Understood and apologies made: i merely wished to test my holiday guidance and travel insights, as i am considering bringing back 'holiday 83' with June Sarpong & Cliff michelmore conpresenting alongside me as the main event.

In the programme i intend to speak in a very middle class accent in very effusive tones to working class poor watchers about all inclusive buffets as if it were michelin starred fodder from the heavens. I shall also talk about exotic local watersport options and how ostrich can be seen fighting one another in a nearby sandy cove. The programme will be very popular with the type of people who watch ski sunday, police 9 and going for gold.

I like Riga.
Mostly for warm balmy summer evenings getting slowly pissed in the outdoor bars around the old town. Generally a nice small place with a warm heart.

Barcelona - fantastic, walking, bus tour, parks, sites and beaches, doesn't get much better. I stayed round the Sants area and visited the old bull ring which is now a shopping centre with great restaurants. Place de l' Espagne and Montjuic with its evening Magic Fountain show. Sants is also only 20 minutes walk from the Camp Nou.

Munich - Marienplatz, Residence, Maximillianplatz and the English garden. Great walking so you keep fit too. Get the train to Salzburg (90 minutes) and walk round the sights, go to the castle, and take the Sound of Music tour which lasts for four hours. Takes you around where the film was shot and to Mondsee which is away from Salzburg.

Bordeaux - very small but nice place, again a good walking city. Take one of the wine tours that are everywhere. The bus tour and tractor train tours are short and inexpensive. Great area for shopping and eating by the Grand Theatre. Place de la Bourse and the water mirror are places to see as well.

Rome - Stayed in the Hotel Sant Anselmo which is in a very nice residential area 10 minute walk from the Circo Massimo. All the usual sites are great so get a hop on off bus ticket. We didn't use the metro just walked. Found eating in the smaller, local restaurants better and cheaper than the ones in the tourist areas.

Also found Maastricht, Bruges, Lyon and Oslo great places too.

Berlin, Porto, Florence, Palma, Sevilla and Amsterdam are all lined up for 2017 so will revert back to this in October.

In norway you can wear mittens made of wolf pelt

The spoken language sounds like scottish tramp being electrocuted mid sentence

You are able to purchase and snack on owl meat there

Fonz from the happy days regularly visited Tromso and there is a shrine to his greasy memory there

The proportion of the female population with large unruly old fashioned tits there is greater then most other places

Correct.... and it's made for pedestrians, loads of walking streets plus cheap food and booze.

Stockholm is a nice city and the Swedes are great, but it is utterly overrun with beggars. Far worse than Rome or Naples in that respect.

Valencia is one of my favourites.

City has great nightlife and massive beach with loads of bars and restaurants on the front.
